History

Sleepers MRLX 20 to 23 were part of a group of 20 sleepers built for the New York Central by the Pullman Car Company. They were built in 1949 on lot 6790 to plan 4123. They had 10 roomettes and 6 double bedrooms. Their layout was somewhat unique, as the passengers would tend to be on the river side as the trains travelled along the Hudson River. CN used these cars system-wide and they were absorbed into VIA in 1978, retaining the CN names and numbers. Upon retirement, six of the cars were stored at Halifax. They were purchased by the S & H in 1984 through a Montreal area scrap dealer. In 1986 two were sold, and are now part of a restaurant complex in Dalhousie, N.B.

Number 2079 has been partially refurbished inside and is used by volunteers, school groups and visitors. The second sleeper next to the "SAINT JOHN RIVER" is former CN 2081. In 1995 two others which had been stripped (CN 2076 "MARGAREE RIVER" and CN 2094 "RIDEAU RIVER") were scrapped.

It is part of class PS-79-N, is 25.9m (85') long, and weighs 63.6 tonnes (70 tons).
